samenvatting: Onderzoek naar paarvorming in Suriname en Nederland en daaruit voortvloeiend een onderzoek naar de ideeën over homoseksualiteit. De invloed van en de plichten aan (voortplanting) de extended family (het West-Indisch familiesysteem) evenals machismo en de ideeën over vrouwen en seksualiteit spelen hierbij een grote rol. Een zichtbare homoseksuele levensstijl wordt bestraft met verstoting. In eerste instantie wordt geprobeerd homomannen te genezen, lukt dat niet dan volgt verstoting. Homo-erotiek komt veelvuldig voor, ook openlijk, zonder dat het tot homoseksualiteit leidt of men er iets achter zoekt. De seksualiteit tussen man en vrouw is een puur technische handeling, van uitwisseling van gevoelens kan geen sprake zijn, aldus de onderzoekster.

samenvatting: In 1965 vond er in de Haagse kunstenaarssociëteit Pulchri Studio een opmerkelijke gebeurtenis plaats: Ellen Warmond en Dolf Verroen verloofden zich, hoewel Verroen een vriend had en Warmond een vriendin. Was deze verloving een knieval voor de burgerlijke moraal van die tijd of zat er iets anders achter?

samenvatting: In Italy, homosexual people are not allowed to perform donor insemination/surrogacy or adoption, thus they become parents mainly in the context of previous heterosexual relationships. The current study examines the experiences of 34 gay fathers and 32 lesbian mothers with children from a heterosexual relationship. Data on homosexuality awareness, reasons for marriage and parenthood, and the coming-out process to children were collected. Most participants reported not being aware of their homosexuality when they married and became parents. The most common reasons for marriage were 'love' and 'social expectancy', whereas parenthood was motivated mainly by the 'desire for children and family.' Most participants came out to at least one child and reported a positive reaction. The most cited benefit of coming out was 'openness/not hiding anymore.' The results suggest that the lives of gay and lesbian parents are shaped by their sexual minority status as well as by societal heterosexism. Status or Access? : The Impact of Marriage on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Queer Community Change  / Abigail Ocobock.

samenvatting: Drawing on interview and survey research with 116 married and unmarried lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBQ) individuals, this study offers the first systematic data on the relationship between legal marriage and LGBQ community life. The author distinguishes between marital status - being married - and marital access - gaining access to the institution of marriage - as distinct drivers of community change. In contrast to research with heterosexuals, the findings suggest that marital access plays a primary role in LGBQ community change. The different life course trajectories of LGBQ people and their prior experiences of social exclusion alter the relationship between marriage and community. The findings push family scholarship beyond a one-model-fits-all approach to understanding the impact of marriage on community engagement. Taken together, they expand literature on marriage as greedy, the deinstitutionalization of marriage, and marriage and social inclusion as well as offer insights into how LGBQ people understand and enact marriage.
